Tasting notes from the Wine Enthusiast
"Impressively balanced, with the fruit rich, intense with a golden glow. The acidity is as important as the freshness, giving a delicious lift to the core of dry, concentrated botrytis. Obviously a great wine for a long-term aging in a great Sauternes year." 96-98/ 100 points
Tasting notes from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"Tasted single blind against its peers. The Yquem 2008 is east to spot in a blind line-up: it is (to quote Tine Turner) simply the best. It has a subtle, delicate but very pretty bouquet with fine definition and astounding minerality. The palate is beautifully poised, tense and tightly coiled on the entry and then it just explodes in the mouth with pure, unbridled, joyous botrytized fruit struck through with a silver thread of acidity. It displays exemplary tension and freshness, along with great persistency in the mouth. This is an outstanding Sauternes 2008 and another impressive Yquem." 96/ 100 points
Producer Profile Château d'Yquem
Château d`Yquem is often described as the greatest sweet wine in the world. After centuries of family ownership, Yquem was finally sold in acrimonious circumstances to Louis Vuitton-Moët-Hennessy in 1999. However, its former owner and director Alexandre de Lur-Saluce remains in charge. Yquem is located on the highest hill in Sauternes and enjoys the best growing conditions in the whole appellation. Château d'Yquem is classified as a 1er Cru Classé supérieur.
