Producer Profile Domaine du Peras

Located in the sunny South of France, Domaine du Peras has been in the same family since 1650. Located in the Languedoc Roussillon in Abeilhan, 15 kilometres north of Beziers, the 38 hectare estate of clay and limestone vineyards is managed and owned by Mathieu Merlet. Domaine du Peras produces wines of great diversity, choosing to focus on single grape varietals. In this sense, he feels that the “consumer knows what is in the glass.” Grapes are always harvested at night to maximise freshness and fruitiness. Domaine du Peras is a shining example of affordable, easy-drinking wines that do not sacrifice quality.

Lip-smacking

This is a delightful wine. From the first soft sip, the palate discovers additional flavours and subtleties as each additional sip reveals new interest. I'm not quite sure how this wine manages such versatility while retaining its easy-drinking characteristic and value for money. We opened a bottle to accompany peppers stuffed with onions, mushrooms, tomatoes and cannellini beans flavoured with lots of garlic and some chilli, topped with goat's cheese, and served with new potatoes and broccoli. I'm looking forward to serving it at weekends when we often indulge ourselves with meat from our local butcher. In these lockdown days it's good to relish the better things in life.
