14 Year Old Islay Single Malt Whisky, 70cl. No. of bottles: 321 from Scotland, United Kingdom. 56.5% ABV.
Drawn from a refill ex-Bourbon hogshead, this appears to have had a west coast maturation - gradual loss of alcohol with good retention of volume. Summer gold in colour, this shows a moderate bead. Smoked kippers, Amaretti biscuits, lint bandages soaked in TCP and sea urchin. Burnt treacle cupcakes, Stollen cake, malt kilns, smoked oysters, sun-kissed kelp and smoked Mull cheddar in a long finish.
Producer Profile
An impressive bottle of Laphroaig distilled in 2004 and laid to rest in a refill Bourbon hogshead. After 14 years had passed, the wonderful Adelphi chose to independently bottle the Islay single malt in 2019 at cask strength, and without colouring or chill filtering.
