Sweet wine, 50cl. Full bodied Furmint, Hárslevelű and Sárgamuskotály blend from Tokaj, Hungary. 10.0% ABV.
An excellent vintage, in every aspect, possessed perfect quality fruit for making sweet wines ( and also exceptional dry Furmints ): lots of sunshine, cold nights, cool dawns and enough rain equally spread over the region. After the long ripening and the development of a good proportion of botrytis, the harvest of the grapes for the sweet wines lasted from mid-October to the end of November. This aszú wine was made from a blend of 70% Furmint, 20% Hárslevelű and 10% Sárgamuskotály that grows on the red clay, zeolite and hard rhyolite tuff soil of the best vineyards in the villages of Mád, Bodrogkeresztúr and Tállya. The strict aszú berry selection was followed by spontaneous barrel fermentation and almost two and a half years of ageing in new and second-fill, 300-litre, Zemplén oak barrels. The 260 grams of residual sugar, 8.5 grams of acidity and 10% of alcohol are in lovely balance. Gorgeous aromas with lively acidity, concentration, elegance and liveliness. This delicious wine with lots of layers, and mesmerising aromas has an ever lasting long finish as expected from the king of wines, wine of kings!
Producer Profile Szepsy
The Szepsy family has been producing Tokaj wines since the 1500s, with the aim of producing the best grapes possible without compromise. The estate is comprised of 50 hectares of vines, that are forty years of age on average, planted on steep slopes at high altitude on a rocky volcanic soil that is considered to be the single, most complex soil composition. The Szepsy family history is deeply linked to that of Tokaj Aszú wine production: In 1631, Szepsy Laczkó Máté was the first man to ever write down how to make Tokaji Aszú. Eighteen generations later, now under István Szepsy’s direction, the same standards remain and younger generations honour the family tradition of continually striving towards perfection.
